Very interesting! I've been using alias files to point to various items (folders, sparsebundles, folders on sparsebundle disks) and have been amazed at the ability of an alias file to follow changes (rename folders, reorganize folders) that a user may make that my application would otherwise not know about.

It seems to be very reliable, but I did run into a couple of bugs this weekend. It took hours to find the bug, but fixing it was a one-liner. After modifying one of the alias files (in a folder 'locationAlias'), I simply put in the line ...

	update folder locationAlias

So, how do alias files work?
