Possible to Get Property List Editor Edit Plist File?

Dear AppleScriptors,

Hello.  I normally use Defaults to view and edit plist values if the list is not complicated.  When I want to access a value under an extensive array of strings, I don't know how to do it.  In one particular case, Apple's Property List Editor shows

Root
actions
0
1
action
ActionParameters
gridSpacing
...
...
2
3
AMApplicationBuild
AMApplicationVersion
...
...

I can access the value of AMApplicationBuild string and AMApplicationVersion string with defaults with no problem.  But I don't know how with gridSpacing under actions/1/action.  Is it possible to get Apple's Property List Editor to get/edit the value of gridSpacing with AppleScript?  gridSpacing appears under actions/0/action, too, by the way.  I know Defaults has array option.  I don't know if this option is what I need.  I've asked Google about it with no result.  I've also asked Google about AppleScript and Property List Editor with no result so far.

Thank you for your advice,

Jim
