Or perhaps more precisely, Database Events' inability to import more than
one row at a time/event.

To get anything faster, you'll probably need to use something else. With do
shell script you could use sqlite3 -- not as simple to set up, but it's
built-in and it does have an import facility. And there are a couple of
tutorials about using it from AS around.
