Application Bundles

  • Subject: Application Bundles

This morning, I noticed that an AppleScripted application bundle created with AppleScript Editor in Snow Leopard would not run on PPC-G3-Tiger. If the same application is created with Script Editor in Leopard, it runs fine on PPC-G3-Tiger.

I went to the Apple Developer site and searched "AppleScript Editor". AppleScript Release Notes says ...

Script File Formats

AppleScript Editor no longer supports saving applications in the old single-file format. All scripts saved as an “Application” will be saved as an application bundle with three supported architectures: ppc, i386, and x86_64. Such applications can run on Mac OS X v10.3 and later. Old single-file applications opened in AppleScript Editor will be treated as read-only files: you must use Save As to save them, and they will be saved in the new format.

This seems to say that my application bundle created in AppleScript Editor/Snow Leopard should run on PPC-G3-Tiger.

Does anyone know more?
