Title: Re: Selecting a folder from the sidebar in a save dialog
My primary computer is a G4 running Tiger 10.4.11. I have several scripts that open a URL in Safari and save the source of that page as a text file (with extension .HTML) so I can search the text using a text editor. I store the source in a folder that is shown in the sidebar of the save dialog and is clickable via GUI scripting using the following line:
click button "To_Be_Sent" of list 1 of scroll area 1 of splitter group 1 of group 1 of sheet 1 of window w_Name
("To_Be_Sent" is the name of the folder)
I obtained a Mac Book this weekend that is running Snow Leopard. The script is broken at the point where I'm trying to select the folder from the sidebar in the save dialog.
What is the easiest way to select a sidebar item in a save dialog under Snow Leopard?
Is the a "standard" way to do this or do I need to test OS version numbers to code different methods in the same script.?
TIA,
Jim Brandt
Jim,
Forget about GUI scripting, there is a much better and reliable solution to do what you want:
Independently that you have your folder into the sidebar, this is just an alias, but the folder reside in some place into your hard disk so why you just don’t make something like this
set ToBesent to alias "MacPro:Users:username:Documents:MyFolder:"
Of course you need to change this using the real location of your folder
