I have AppleScripts (within a FileMaker solution, actually) that move
files from client to server machines. The volumes are mounted with AFP
and I've just scripted the Finder; the volume gets mounted if it's not
already.

I've also used curl to move stuff via FTP which is probably quicker
and doesn't require a volume to be mounted.

Both methods have been reliable, they're both used in different
solutions due to the nature of the server involved.
