Why is this solution your favorite if it fails for some values? :) Apple has said that the old binary coded decimal system should no longer be used because it can NOT handle all version numbers. With all the bugs and stuff in 10.7, it would not surprise anyone if we see 10.7.10 or even 10.7.15. The best way to convey version numbers is as strings, such as that returned in the system information class.
