Contextual menus

I should know this, but I'm not having much success.

Is there a way to save an applescript so it appears in a contextual menu? Directly in the menu would be preferable, but as a service would also be acceptable.

I guess I could do it by using automator, and having an action call the script, but is there a way to do it directly without using Automator?
