Hey Jon,

Hmm... Thanks for sending the output.  In my apps folder the following items get no output from 'mdls':

Address Book.app
Mail.app
Preview.app
Safari.app
System Preferences.app
TextEdit.app

While testing I tried the Address Book first, then Mail, then Safari, then TextEdit, and when non of these produced any output I wrongly believed it was all apps.

Weird indeed.

I'll repair permissions later and see if anything changes.

Oh; I'm using Mac OS 10.6.6.
