itunes plugins to get device plugin notification

Hello,

I am looking at writing an itunes plug-ins that will get notification when an ipod/ipad/iphone is connected on MAC OS X. Once the itunes plugin get notification it will enumerate the files on the attached device.
Is this feasible? If not, what is the alternate path that I can take.
I read about itunes device plug-ins and Apple Mobile Device service, but could not get to the solution. Please guide me if this is the wrong list to post this question.
