Sure, it's fine in small cases, but this builds programming habits that simply do not scale to handle more complex tasks.

Programming like this builds habits within the programmer that take years to break.

Programmers generally move up to more complex tasks and if you stick with this approach, it does not scale well, and you inflict your fuckups on others who have to use your code.

I happened in on two projects where the programmers never broke those habits.  It was a major propagation of fail that I was able to fix in one situation.
