Only if someone *does* return to the script later, and even then there's no
guarantee in a short script. (And I don't ask anyone else to read my
shopping lists -- I *know* they are only for my eyes.)
You keep assuming that every script will be revisited, but I'd say only a
small percentage of the small ones I write are. Perhaps the more important
question is which method will save minutes or hours *overall*.
If premature optimization is a sin, perhaps we can be allowed to focus a bit
more on the here and now...
