I have never given this question a moment of thought, until this thread.

By default, when I hit reply, Mail leaves me in top posting position.

If I think about it, I'll remove older text and just keep what I'm replying to, or, more often, select individual lines from previous posts.

I'll try to be more considerate in the future and be sure to strip out what's not essential.
