Strange Error

I have a really strange error that I can't resolve.

I found the offending line of code ...

try

set applAlias to (file applPosixPath) as alias

on error

tell me to display dialog "error" --***********************

return itemNamesList

end try

When I run the script from Smile, it works perfectly. But ...

When I compile the script to an application bundle, using either Smile or AppleScript Editor, the application displays "error". Every time!

Anyone have any idea what's going wrong?
