Case Sensitive Format

I just got an email from a user of my software.
My software creates a preference file named "com.AbcdefGhijkl.MnopqrStuvwx.plist".
But, the error message he reports shows a file named "com.abcdefghijkl.mnopqrstuvwx.plist"
I did a test in which I changed the name of the preference file to lower case. No error.
Then, I remembered something about disk formatting. These formats are available:
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Mac OS Extended
Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)
Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive)
I use the first of these and have never used the others.
Does anyone have any experience with Case-sensitive formats?
And, would using a Case-sensitive format cause this error?
(I have asked the user for this information, but no reply yet.)
Meanwhile I plan on reformatting a seldom used thumb-drive and doing some tests.
