My own tip.

I duplicate a clean pref file in a subfolder name "safe_prefs".
Every morning when I boot the machine, a script replace the pref file in use by a copy of the clean one.
This way I always begin a day with clean prefs.
I apply that to several pref files because AppleScript isn't the only one suffering of this syndrome.

If you leave your machine running 24 hours a day, you may apply one of the schemes allowing us to run tasks once a day.
