Chris,
I'm back, running on a clone.
Still no sound when I run a script with only beep in it.
All other sounds seem fine.
I clicked on the mute to mute, then not mute (again).
I'm sure I could restore the beep sound from Time Machine or from my MBP if I knew where it should be.
