(apologies in advance, replying to a huge number of mails, so maybe this has been replied already)

If that scripting addition is Satimage osax, then just use "uppercase", not "upper case".

For some strange reason this is not working:

set myVar to "hello"
set theResult to upper case myVar

I know for shure that I have used that before. I get an error: Can ´t read
upper case "hello".
Same problem with lowercase.

Any idea what´s wrong here?

You are missing whatever scripting addition included the "upper case" command -- it's not part of AppleScript itself (sadly).
