In Lion, "guessing" is totally out of control. I have a Lion installation that I use only for testing an AppleScript application with Mail. Nothing else. Every time I begin opening folders, I find that the View has changed, the icon layout has changed, correct columns aren't displayed and folder comments have been erased. And it doesn't matter if I've checked "Always open in ... view". Lion is "flakey".
Luther, the List,
I have that with 10.6 in the internal hard disk only. When I boot with
an external hard disk (with Lion or Leopard): everything is OK.
All I have to not do is to boot with the (offending) internal hard disk
and connect that Lion installed hard disk (or other OS).
To me, it seems to be the internal hard disk fault.
About Command-Shift-#3: *
I do not remember from when his command (1, 2, 3, 4) have been
implemented in Mac OS: it was in version 6, but I do not know if it was
in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or ...
The default file type of the generated screen shot is (here) png; it was
pdf under Tiger.
The location is the Desktop.
I strongly dislike the Search / Replace "new way" in TextEdit (Lion).
At last, sometimes people dislike new (new stuff) but do not realize it.
At nearly 58 y/o, I think that after all, new stuff is not my cup of
tea: I have to be acustomed to them and it sometimes takes weeks to
months before I really understand them, accept them. Usually, I realize
that I miss a feature when I boot (or use another computer who runs) a
lower version of Mac OS X. ;-)
What is sure (in my mind) is that a feature can have 80% of fans and 1%
of people who strongly dislike it!!!
[and I sometimes am in the 1% of people who hate it]

* There is (are?) many other ways to make a screenshot... press the
'ctrl' key for example, Command-Shift-#4 (and also with the 'ctrl' key).
