INDESIGN: Coercing a String to a Constant

How might I go about choosing a measurement unit value (e.g., picas or inches) from a choose from list result and coerce it in a way to set a value of a measurement unit property.

I know I can work around with matched lists like {points, picas, inches} and {"1. points", "2. picas", "3. inches"}, and then use the first word of the result as an index for the list of constants, but it's so clunky. There must be a better way, no?
