Naaaaaaah.
More like a window with a title bar and just a full page text field. Something that I use TextEdit docs for all to often.
I think that Apple has/had source code for that at some point.

I just did this in 10.6.8 and it's a simple little app that uses an NSTextView
If you want the source code and app (the window resizes and the text resizes with it) you can have it. It's called "Messages" and will respond to GUI scripting commands.
I haven't added AppleScript dictionary support to it yet, nor do I know how at this moment.
