Yes, that comes under the "habits from elsewhere" category.
There is at least one case in AS where script objects need to be declared before they are called -- or, at least, there was. It used to be the case with QuarkXPress's do script command. Maybe that's why I'm more inclined to declare script objects at the start, and more or less follows Stan's order otherwise.
