But can we assume Shane that you also know no other way of doing it in applescript? (we haven't missed anything have we?)

I am still curious to know if this list is going to be displayed as a "choose from list" dialog. If so, then the speed is not really an issue, if the list takes too long to generate then it's clearly going to be too long to be functional anyway, anything manageable in a choose from list dialog is going to be fine looping through and building the name list. (My thoughts anyway..)
