Is it me or has Lion stuffed a rocket up Applescript's a$$? Either that or FileMaker Pro suddenly got faster in Lion.
I've got a script which parses out data from .eml (email) files, checks FileMaker for duplicate entries and then adds stuff to FileMaker. This used to tick along at a leisurely pace such that I could see what was going on. Now everything moves at a complete blur. It's great. Easily twice as fast and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an order of magnitude quicker.
Hmm. The database will have creation timestamps. Let's have a quick look to see the speed difference in adding 1,000 records (each email has 1,000 lines).
Approx five and a half minutes for 1,000 records back in 2011-04-17 (00:33:53 for 6,000 records with Snow Leopard).
Approx one minute for 1,000 records as I was typing this today (00:08:19 for 8,000 records with Lion).
File Maker hasn't been updated (I keep on ignoring the nag telling me to upgrade 11v3 to 11v4). But let's see if I can find a run just prior to upgrading to Lion - AppStore receipts to the rescue!
Approx five minutes for 1,000 records four days before the upgrade. (01:03:12 for 13,000 records with Snow Leopard).
A very nice speedup. Thank you Apple.
:-)
