I agree with your rules but to get the script working in its simplest form and not fully understanding Script Debugger 4.5 (demo with 5 days left) that I am using. The most important thing I needed to do was save the script and run it without Enabling Debugging as a script in the script menu. Then I don't need any "delay 1" lines. There is probably some way to test a UIScript using Script Debugger that I have not learned about yet.
I clearly have more work to do on the script to make it work in all circumstances. I remember that the PDF Services had to be activated at one time but on Lion it appears to be activated by default so I should set a trap for older systems where the PDF menu is not activated, for instance.
I will test your script to see if I can get it to work now that I better understand my problem.
