Laine Lee:
Thank you for your answer (and the code).
Talking about the code:
1. I do not have a single item in the Desktop folder;
2. I do not understand what your code is supposed to do.
Here, it returns 10. xx (xx is a small value I forgot).
If all this complex code was to know the max val of the Grid Spacing, there were a very fast way to get it:
read it in the Finder files.
All:
Thanks to Yvan for its code. I must comfess that the only real lines that I understand from your code are the ones that starts by get and set ;-:)
BUT they are the most important. Also, Once I added at the end of your code 'tell me to activate' and I saw no more a returned value, I started to understand why I never was able to get that value using this way.
Month ago, I created a script who returned to me (using GUI) everything that was in the cmd-j windowid (floating window). But that leads _me_ nowhere.
All (bis):
I am sorry, in my original question, I forgot to tell that it was in Icon view. Fortunately, everyone understand that.
Now the 'best' part:
The default grid value (on Lion) is 54. This values comes from Yvan scrip, yes, but it is stored in the file: "com.apple.finder.plist" located:
:Library:Preferences:com.apple.finder.plist
on a US language running Lion. That Library folder is now invisible.
When you remove this file, a brand new is created, but with the maximum value which is 100 (LL: it’s for you). REMEMBER to not remove this file because it is not meant to be removed AND it also makes other changes (sorry, I forgot which ones). Because I do not trashed the file, but saving it elsewhere and creating an alias to its location, after some reboots, I was able to place it to its original location.
BTW: the plist file can be read using XCode or using the Quick Look function. It is a binary plist, so not human readable in a text editor.
Have a happy Christmas and Merry New Year,
Emile
PS: the data stored in the ComputerViewSettings are the one to use; check for gridSpacing -> real value (54). In that block we can read all predefined values like showItemValue (true), showItemInfo (true) textSize (12), iconSize (128) and so on. Of course, these are MY predefined values !
