AppleScript and all of the MacOS X automation technologies are alive and
thriving in Lion. Just look at this list of advancements:

The introduction of AppleScriptObjective-C and its integration with desktop
AppleScript applets has dramatically broadened the scope of AppleScript by
providing direct access to the Cocoa frameworks. And Automator in Lion now
includes actions and services for encoding media and creating digital
publications. As for myself, I am proud to serve as the Product Manager for
Automation Technologies at Apple. 2012 is going to be a fantastic year. Cheers!
