You don't have to *add* additional software, but you do have to *use* additional software -- and that's really the point: that vanilla methods just aren't up to the task in the general sense.

Regular expressions looks like a bit of a sledgehammer when Satimage.osax has a perfectly good "uppercase" command.
But then my own example was more complicated than it need be...
