Unfortunately, this unruly behaviour has been introduced already with Snow Leopard: Finder windows do not anymore open in place and with the settings the user had set for it (bounds, icon view, toolbars, sidebars, asf). The only thing still reliably working ar windows background colors.
That means that finder windows have obviously lost their abilities to read (and execute) the content of the ".DS_Store" files, where place, windows boundaries and other properties (like toolbars on/off) should be stored. As I heavily depend on accurately set spatial windows, I had several threads because of that subject in Omnitalk's mailing list, without any satisfactory results.
This is really VERY VERY VERY NASTY. APPLE: did you hear it.
