Hi all,

Quick bit of background - I work for a company with 3 main offices, London, Palo Alto and New York - with other smaller offices dotted around. The company is connected together using a load of Cisco routers which are also set up as VPN access points.

So, if you're in Europe, you connect to the London VPN, West Coast to Palo Alto and East Coast to New York. For people that travel we currently create all three VPN connection points manually in the Network control panel and they connect to whichever one is closest.

I have an AppleScript that I wrote that does a load of other stuff (sets defaults, installs company software, presentation templates, adds the machine to Active Directory and so on) and I've been trying to add a script to it to set up the VPN access points.

I'm falling at the first hurdle though. Although the dictionary doesn't say that "service" is read only or anything like that, I can't seem to create a new service.

make new service at beginning/end

appears to do nothing. The dictionary says it's contained be network preferences objects and that's what I'm "tell"ing but I haven't been able to figure out what I'm missing. No errors, no feedback - just looks like nothing is happening.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know if I can create VPNs from the command line? Or some other solution?

Thanks

Steve
