Why? Sure, when aliases were introduced, they were tiny files -- but previews didn't exist then. The small size was really an artefact -- their role was to keep pointing to an original file, and that hasn't changed. They now support previews, which potentially makes them much more useful. Are you saying that the extra functionality should have been sacrificed to save bytes?

I think it makes no sense for a file that simply points to another file to have it's own embedded preview and/or other useless junk.  Particularly when the original file is 600K and the alias file is 2.3MB.

The alias's Get-Info should simply display the requisite pieces of the original file unless it has specifically been altered by the user.
