clipboard belongs to Standard Additions, not System Events.

Try this for comparison ...

set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {return}
tell application "System Events" to set processlist to (name of every process) as text
-- (name of every process) returns a list
set clipboard to processlist as text
display dialog processlist
