Why does Smile need to startup other apps?

Hi,
I'm back with my monthly cry for help!
Every time I startup Smile I have to wait (forever) for at least 8 unrelated applications to startup (see list below).
There is NO script opening.
I'm sure this is related to a script that references these applications (and many more).
I sort of understand why this has to occur if I open the script in question but if I open NO script this is rudiculous. Applescript Editor exhibits this anomaly too,
This occurs on BOTH my Macs.
Surely I'm not the only one who has this problem and there MUST be a cure.
I could abandon Smile but I've grown to depend on it.
applications list: App Store System Preferences Keynote Numbers TextEdit AdobeAcrobat AppleScript Editor Adobe Photoshop CS3
