scripting Apple Disk Utility

i have several external hard drives on my iMac for various backups and would like to script Disk Utility to mount and run disk repair and disk permissions. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would also like to be able to report the result of Disk Utility's findings and either display them in a dialog box or perhaps email them to myself
