And until next week, it's not applying on mine either.  But, without knowing the details, it just seems to me to be a gatekeeper/sandboxing issue - or at least that's my hunch.

I'm just thinking what might have changed in the past few OS releases that could have contributed to this.

Maybe desktop permissions?

I have some some AS apps that write to multiple places on the HD that are outside the new legit ones, if I have time, I'll try running them next week on 10.8 and see if they also cause great pain.
