Hi Everyone,
I'll introduce myself. I am Guy LaRochelle from Canada. I was a computer programmer at one time in the late 80s and early 90s before I started the grain farming business. I always loved the Macs. Unfortunately I've been away from Mac programming for awhile now. It has sure changed. I ran across AppleScript one day as well as this list and i've been dabbling with it a little. Its really intrigued me. I have a little task in my office right now and I am wondering if AppleScript could solve it. Here goes:
I have a book keeper who works for me and she uses a program called Farmworks. It is a Windows application that I run using Parallels (it is the only windows application I use just because I have no choice. Lol). When she is done the books for the day she does a backup of the data through Farmworks. I would like her to copy this file to another folder on the desktop. When she does this I would like an Applescript to look in a DropBox folder and trash the previous backup and copy the new backup to the Dropbox folder. The backup always has a .ZIP extension. I'm thinking that possibly there is a way that an Applescript can be used to activate this procedure every time a file with a .zip extension is copied to this folder. Unless possibly there is a way that a script could be used to activate the backup procedure in Farmworks running under Parallels. That would be even better but I don't know if Applescript could control an application running under Windows.
Is this possible? If so could some of you guys help me with some examples? Thanks. -Guy
