You've only got to rename your HD, or boot into another bootable disk and that script won't work anymore. The revision suggested wouldn't have that problem.

According to your message, the problem was the fact that the name of the boot volume was hardcoded.
My understanding was that it was linked to the use of result.

I agree that it would be better to code :

(path to desktop as text) & "get archives AppleScript - stripped.scpt"
set sourcePath to quoted form of POSIX path of result
path to startup disk as text
set targetPath to quoted form of POSIX path of result

I didn't used "/" because my memory refuse to register this shortcut and I feel that it's too specific.
The root folder isn't the unique one for which the system requires a password.
The two next ones are treated the same way.

path to library folder from local domain as text
path to applications folder as text
