Thanks for the clarifications, Shane.

I do understand where you’re coming from, but I’m taking a different approach, and for a reason.

I don’t underestimate people’s abilities at all. I’ve been a teacher and technical communicator for many years, but unlike you, I only just learned AS myself, and I still have fresh in my mind the many hoops I had to go through to develop some competency. Also bear in mind that I’m aiming at an audience that won’t have the guidance of a teacher on hand. It’s one thing to have students in a classroom and be able to take them through something like SD, its another to imagine a learner sitting alone at a computer with an introductory book on AppleScript and google for aids.

There’ll have plenty of time to discover the wonders of SD, and it will get a mention in the appendix of the book, but my focus is to get people up and running with what they’ve got to hand.
