I was going to say something similar, but shorter. :p

In English, words come into being (and thus are legitimate) through use. Dictionaries record usage; they don't legislate it.

I'm aware that that isn't the case in some languages (Thai, for example) but didn't know French was one of them (like most Anglophones, my French is non-existent, save for the bits that the Normans brought with them and left in the English language after 1066 or so… :)
