A parallel of this is your local airport (not Airport): x-ray machines, body scans, personal searches, disallowed items & substances.

How much freedom (ie, freedom to communicate between apps) is reasonable to surrender for how much security you feel you want?

And Apple, I'm sure, doesn't want OS X to be labeled (fairly or not) as the platform of choice for a brand new flavor of security attack. Hence these changes.
