Are you saying that once the file's locked and the computer's restarted
or whatever, there's still a problem with overwrites?
I've kept my formatting preferences file locked ever since it kept being
overwritten in Snow Leopard. I also keep a duplicate copy in a safe
place.
Despite the lock, the file occasionally gets overwritten with the
defaults after system updates or upgrades add new formatting categories.
When this happens, I quit AppleScript Editor, replace the default file
with a copy of my backup, and reopen AE. Once it's showing my preferred
formatting, I unlock the plist file, go to AE's Formatting Preferences,
set something for the new categories, and click "Apply". This brings my
preferences up-to-date for the current version of AppleScript. Obviously
I then lock the file again and keep a copy of it in that state as the
backup.
I don't know if this is related to your problem, but it may be worth
checking out.
