Thanks Luther and Phil!
Starting up in Safe Mode actually did the trick!
In safe mode, I successfully ran the mini script that launches Contacts, then I rebooted again normally, and after that, launching Contacts works fine and my scripts work just as they should do! Problems gone!
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564, safe mode deletes dynamic loader shared cache and disables fonts and deletes font caches. Since it now works perfectly normal, it must have been a cache issue.
Before I did safe boot, I logged in as another test user, which worked fine with launching Contacts (but I could not try my scrips since they require things in my user account.
Good lesson! I know all kinds of troubleshooting, but usually overlook and forget about safe mode.
One oddity though: After a safe boot and then a normal boot, I opened the troublesome script, which still refused to compile (lots of chevrons and identifying a line saying illegal access). I closed the script (without saving of course) and then simply ran it from the script menu (FastScripts). After that I could open the script in AppleScript Editor and it looked completely normal without chevrons! Weird! I do not understand such behavior. But since all is well, life can proceed...
Thanks,
/Harald
The whole thing reminds me of:
"To err is human.
But to really fool things up, requires a computer!"
