Hey Guido,

In general this sort of thing is better done with a dedicated utility than with AppleScript.

Spectacle is freeware:

Here's a variety of such things:

Personally I've used MercuryMover for years, although since dev has been AWOL for a while I'll likely move to MOOM eventually.

I do use AppleScript to place windows in certain apps - usually using FastScripts with a keyboard shortcut.

I also use Keyboard Maestro to place windows in a couple of apps where it's a little more convenient than AppleScript.
