Addendum...
The AS team have absolutely no excuse for screwing up JXA either. Not
only have they had seven years to learn from their previous Scripting
Bridge failure, after WWDC14 I sent them not only critical feedback on
their existing JXA implementation, but also a prototype JS-AppleEvent
bridge followed by a 95% complete JavaScript OSA component
implementation for them to study/learn/steal from. You can find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/appscript/files/
It's still buggy (including the odd crasher), and some of the OSA
features are rough and unfinished (I didn't have AppleScript's source
code for reference and Apple's public documentation is useless), but it
should give you an idea of how crap their work is by comparison.
In addition to a few random posts on Stack Overflow and elsewhere, I
also started writing up JXA's fundamental faults over on MacScripter a
while back:
http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=43257
For various reasons including work, health, and why-should-I-give-a-crap
when even its own authors don't, that effort tailed off before I covered
all the best stuff (e.g. JXA's 'whose' support alone makes Great Cthulhu
cry), but maybe if folk bug me enough I might get back to it after holidays.
Regards,
has
