Been there. Most of us learn AS through trial and error and leave the theoretical underpinnings aside for as long as we can get away with it. Except for anything but occassional scripting use, however, this strategy is a mistake. It leads to increasing frustration as you try to do more complex things, instead of increasing mastery as you get greater experience.
Fortunately, there is an answer. Buy, read and re-read Matt Neuburg’s ‘AppleScript: The Definitive Guide’.
Don’t be put off by the pub date, as 90% if not more of what is in the book remains true to this day. It will, like some kind of religious text, totally re-orient your understanding of AS.
No doubt someone will pop-up to contest this, but I’d be willing to bet almost all if not all the “gurus” on this forum have a copy of it.
