There is. But the section on the contains operator in the AppleScript Language Guide also does a fine job:

> A list contains another list if the right-hand list is a sublist of the left-hand list. A sublist is a list whose items
> appear in the same order and have the same values as any series of items in the other list.

The only thing it doesn't spell out is that "is in" is a synonym for "is contained by".
