I know you considered it closed, but I did not have the opportunity to answer, so here we go:
———————> Are you using the Script Libraries facility (not Script Debugger libraries or "load script" libraries)? If so, are you using standard AS libraries, ASObjC-based libraries, or both? And are you writing (or at least modifying) them yourself, or getting them elsewhere? And are you using libraries with scripting dictionaries, or using normal AppleScript handler calls?
--Yes and no! I wrote one but did not use it yet, since I am working in other projects right now. I do intend to use Script Libraries and I like the idea.--
———————> If you're not using Script Libraries, is there any particular reason?
--Currently working on web related projects, so not using AS that much, but using it.--
———————> Do you know how to set up Script Libraries and use them in your scripts?
—Yes.--
———————> Do you think you would be more likely to use ASObjC if you could include it directly in your scripts (perhaps confined to handlers or sections of code), or would it not make any difference?
--Yes and no. Obviously having the extra power of ASObjC helps a lot, however, I believe there is a clash between the languages, the “English-likeness” of AS versus the verbosity of ASObjC. (*)
I tend to agree with Nigel's (Garvey) observations.--
———————> If you were to be granted one AppleScript-related wish, what would it be?
--While I do respect Has very much, I disagree with his views of AS. In spite of working with other languages at the moment,
If I did not have AppleScript there would be a major extra load in the amount of work I do.
While I feel that AS should be improved by giving it more power, I do see major progresses with the use of the language.
For instance the integration with Objective-C and the creation of this new Script Library. But miss a lot of features that should be there in all script languages: regular expressions and arrays come to mind immediately.
And yes, I know about Smile, which, by the way, is an app that shows just how powerful AS can be!--
(*) Actually, if ASObjC has any traction in this community this is due almost entirely to Shane’s efforts. Almost, because I believe Sal has something to do with macosxautomation.com.
In one aspect I do blame Apple for not making AS more popular than it is, lack of interest. While I see progress, I feel that the AS team at Apple faces obstruction from the rest of the Apple engineers. That is they are relegated to a lower level.
It is hard to understand why Apple would not invest more on this technology.
Except for Shane’s book what else is there for ASObjC?
