There are generally only two ways you can modify (or find out about) things that belong to applications via AppleScript: directly, using some command from the application's dictionary, or using GUI scripting. Sometimes you can also do stuff indirectly by changing things like property list files, but that's about it.
Other than that, no application or script can stick its nose into another application's business. And when you think about it, pain that it is sometimes, anything else would be the potential road to chaos.
