Are the photos you're selecting stored locally?
Yes, they are managed, not referenced. But there are some potentially relevant differences from the "pure" case:
1. I created my Photos Library by converting an Aperture library, not an iPhoto library.
2. The old Aperture library and the new Photos Library are both on an external drive (with lots of extra space available).
3. The old Aperture library was automatically changed from .aplibrary to .migratedaplibrary, as expected, and I have left it in place alongside the new Photos Library on the external drive.
4. The new Photos Library (like the old Aperture library) is quite large, about 300GB, with roughly 20,000 photos, most of which are RAW (NEF -- Nikon RAW -- to be precise).
It would be interesting to know if 2551, who is also experiencing this problem, has any of these points in common with me -- and if those who are not experiencing this problem do not.
Also, I understand from recent articles that Apple uses "hard links" in the new Photos Library when converting from an old Aperture or iPhoto library. (I also understand that the old ".migratedaplibrary" Aperture library also now has hard links, so that it can be deleted if I will no longer use Aperture, but I'm less sure of this.) The use of hard links should make no difference, but I wonder if Shane and others who are not experiencing this problem created their Photos Libraries from scratch (so that they might not contain hard links, but I'm not sure) or by converting from an Aperture or iPhoto library. |
