Hi Chris,
unzip is not guilty and works as advertised.
The zip file you unzipped contains Mac OS file system specific data
which is augmenting the files. Most likely the archive has been made
using the Finder's compression command.
The zip file format offers no space where to put file forks and extended
attributes, so these strangely named extra files and folders are used
for this.
Use "ditto" to unpack it, which handles these extras properly and puts
them back in their right places during unpacking.
HTH,
helmut
